La Plata Softball Advances to State Finals
La Plata softball advanced to the state finals with a 3-1 win over St. Elizabeth. After Olivia Coy sent down St. E 1-2-3 in the top of the first, she got the scoring started for La Plata in the bottom half.

Brooklyn Carvajal got on with a bunt and both her and Coy scored on a sac bunt by Paige Carvajal after St. E’s first baseman overthrew home plate. La Plata did not score the rest of the game. St. E’s first run came in the sixth before stranding two runners in scoring position. After two quick outs in the top of the seventh, leadoff hitter Tori Kemna hit a double and Emily Wilde walked. La Plata intentionally walked Tasia Green to set up Ella Lucas with the bases loaded.
La Plata coach Greg Buescher walked through the decision to intentionally walk Green.
Coy struck out 11 in the complete game effort and had two hits on the offensive side. Izzy Joyce also had two hits. Buescher said the big first inning wasn’t completely by design.
La Plata moves to 26-7 and will oppose 26-4 Maysville in the state finals. Maysville defeated East Carter 21-4.
