KNOX COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT APPLYING FOR AN ELECTRIC BUS GRANT
The Knox County School District is continuing to attempt to purchase an electric bus. An update was given on the process during the October Board meeting. Knox County Superintendent Andy Turgeon (Tur-gin) says they are currently waiting on approval for a grant.

The grant is a Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) Grant for air pollution control. The grant would cover 45 percent of the purchase. The cost of the electric bus is $345,000. The district is hopeful to receive additional state funding to help with the purchase. Turgeon says the bus would be the first of its kind for a Missouri school district.

If the district is able to purchase the electric bus they expect to see substantial savings in maintenance and fuel costs from it. However, the district will only be able to purchase the bus if the grant is approved.
