Kirksville Wins Class 4 District 8 Title

The Kirksville Tigers took down the Hallsville Indians 69-61 on Friday night to secure the Class 4 District 8 championship. Cole Kelly got the Tigers going with a barrage of three pointers.

Kelly knocked down seven from beyond the arch and finished with 24 points. Kirksville head coach Tyler Martin said Kelly was waiting for a breakout performance.

The Tigers held a 13 point lead heading into the fourth quarter until a Hallsville run cut it down to nine but would get would no closer. Keaton Anderson helped put the nail in the coffin with 13 of his game high 25 points coming in the fourth quarter. The senior went 8 for 10 from the free throw line. Coach Martin discussed his team’s clutch three throw shooting.

Hallsville finishes the season 21-8 after winning just 10 games a year ago. Despite the bitter end of the season, Indians head coach Brandon Crites was proud of his team’s growth and says he has built relationships that will last a lifetime with his players.

This marks the Tigers first district title since 2020. They will take on Lutheran St Charles in sectionals.
