Kirksville Sweeps Moberly For Second Time This Season

The Kirksville Tigers swept the Moberly Spartans in a NCMC doubleheader for the second time this season Tuesday night in Moberly.

The Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Spartans 48-31 in the first contest. Kirksville preserved a 17-13 lead at the half. Moberly rallied to within two in the third quarter, but the Lady Tigers answered back with a 7-0 run.

Scott Lunte with the call on KWIX and centralmoinfo.com of Anna Moore’s layup. The senior completed the three point play to give Kirksville 31-23 lead late into the third quarter. Tigers coach Nick Totta liked the way Kirksville closed out the game.

Kirksville junior Kenslie Stufflebean scored a game-high 12 points, while Moberly was guided by Mary Billington’s 11. Lady Spartan coach Tony Vestal evaluated Moberly’s offensive woes.

Both Moberly and Kirksville are now 10-10. The Lady Tigers host Fulton Friday.

In the boys game, Kirksville past Moberly 60-29. Moberly’s leading scorer in Jaisten Payne was held to two points, but the Spartans only trailed 32-19 at halftime thanks to 11 first half points by Toby Short. Coach Cord Hagedorn says he’d like to see more than one player help chip in.

The Tigers outscored Moberly 23-5 in the third quarter. Ryan Ball led the way with 15 of his game-high 19 points in that third quarter. Coach Tyler Martin explained Ball’s significance to the team.

Kirksville moves to 17-3 and next plays Palmyra Wednesday in the Highland Tournament Championship. Moberly falls to 2-16 and next plays Thursday at Hannibal. Hear full postgame interviews below:
