During its January meeting, the Kirksville School Board met with district principals to compare student grades during the ongoing pandemic. Kirksville Superintendent Bob Webb explains the different elements of student grades that they looked at.

There have been many concerns that students performance would drop due to the lack of in-seat classes throughout many schools across the country. However, Webb says the grade trends haven’t been as troubling as initially feared.

While some trends are encouraging, Webb adds they are concerned about grades dropping among their older students.

The drop in grades in the Kirksville School District has been largely attrributed to the constant switching between online learning and a hybrid model that allows students to take in-person classes every two days. The Kirksville School Board is expected to finalize different criteria to determine which learning model they will use going forward at its work session January 27th.
