Kirksville Man Faces Charges After Sunday Morning Stabbing

A Kirksville man was arrested early Sunday morning following a stabbing that left another man with life-threatening injuries. The Kirksville Police Department says shortly before 2, officers responded to the emergency department at Northeast Regional Medical Center for a report of a 21-year-old man with stab and cut wounds. Witnesses said the victim and another man were both cut by 20-year-old Shawn Dukes in the area of Osteopathy and Mill streets. The first victim was transferred to another hospital, where as of Monday afternoon, he was in stable condition. The second victim had minor injuries and was treated and released. Dukes was arrested around 5 Sunday morning, and has been charged with two counts of first degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, and one count of unlawful use of a weapon.
