Kirksville Ends the Lady Spartans Season in Districts

Kirksville took the lead with 11 straight points in the first half and held off Moberly for a 34-31 victory in the first round of the Class 4 District Tournament at Mexico High School Monday night. The Lady Spartans had several chances to grab the lead in the third quarter, but ending up trailing 21-20 heading into the fourth. The Lady Tigers built a seven point lead then had to hang on….

Brad Boyer with the call on KWIX and centralmoinfo.com. Mary Billington scored 17 points, including that triple that made it 32-30. Corinne Vorkink hit a pair of free throws with five seconds left to make it a four point game. She paced Kirksville with nine points. Kennedy Messer pulled up from half court and was fouled with less than a second left. She hit one-of-three attempts for the final margin, trying to miss the final toss, but not catching iron. Moberly coach Tony Vestal said they had too many dry stretches scoring the ball….

Vestal and Moberly wrap up the season 12-13. Kirksville improves to 11-14. The Lady Tigers play top seed Mexico Tuesday night at 7:30.
