Kentucky Man Arrested in Columbia Following Standoff
Columbia police have arrested a Kentucky man who had an active warrant in Boone County for an assault in 2001. Officers went to a residence in the 400 block of Hickman Avenue Saturday to serve an arrest warrant for 38-year old Lucas Garner. Columbia Police had previously attempted a traffic stop on December 19th on a vehicle driven by Garner. Garner fled the scene, but police were eventually able to locate the vehicle at the residence on Hickman Avenue. Further investigation revealed Garner as the owner. In addition, police found Garner had three additional warrants in Kentucky. When officers attempted to contact Garner at the residence on Saturday, Garner refused to comply and barricaded himself inside with family members. Garner surrendered without incident following a two hour standoff which required assistance from the Columbia Police Crisis Negotiation Team, K-9 Unit, and SWAT. Garner was arrested for the assault warrant in Boone County, as well as the Kentucky warrants for trafficking narcotics, endangering the welfare of a child, and felony possession.
