An Iowa man was sentenced for three different felonies in Adair County Court Tuesday after an incident where he fired a shot at a Kirksville police officer three years ago. 32-year-old Joseph Bibby of Ottumwa was sentenced to 20 years, 10 years and four years in the Missouri Department of Corrections by Judge Russell Steele. On August 1st, an Adair County jury found Bibby guilty of assaulting a law enforcement officer in the first degree, armed criminal action, and resisting arrest.
On July 5th, 2016, a Kirksville police officer tried to pull Bibby over for not wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle. Bibby fled on foot and fired a shot at the officer. He was later found hiding in a ditch.
