Prospective producers of industrial hemp took in over a half-dozen speakers at the inaugural Heart of America Agricultural Hemp Classic Thursday in Independence. Over 150 producers and vendors heard from speakers who have recently begun growing the crop, learning about their trials and the issues they overcame. Missouri Hemp Association Executive Director Bill Cook said one of the classic’s goals was to help producers establish relationships with vendors and buyers.

While touting hemp as a “miracle plant” whose cultivation can rejuvenate the farm economy, Cook stressed that farmers should take a cautious approach as regulations and the market develops.

Also at the classic, the Missouri Hemp Association announced their “One Vision” approach, teaming up with the recently formed U.S. Hemp Growers Association to begin crafting a common approach to supporting hemp producers.
