Hopes High for Green City Boys’ Basketball in 2021-22 Season

The Green City boys basketball team narrowly missed out on a Final Four appearance last season as they were defeated by Higbee in the quarterfinal round. This season Green City has their eyes firmly set on a trip to the Final Four in Springfield. Green City coach Donnie Fields says last season’s quarterfinal loss is being used as motivation.

The Gophers return almost their entire roster from last season when they went 24-5. The Gophers often pushed the pace on the offensive end last season resulting in an average of 66 points a game. Fields say the team is shaping up to be more dangerous on the offensive end this season.

Despite returning almost the entire core from last season, the Gophers still feature only one senior in the form of Laydon Fields. With expectations of a deep playoff run in place, Fields says the team has beefed up their non-conference schedule for this year.

The Gophers will also pay a visit to Salisbury to face the Panthers on January 17th. Green City opens the season at the Novinger Tournament in two weeks. You can hear the full interviews with Coach Fields and other area coaches on our Boys Tipoff Show November 24th beginning at 5:35 pm on KRES 104.7 and centralmoinfo.com.
