High Winds and Severe Storms Rip Through Big K Listening Area

Severe storms and high winds ripped through several counties across the listening area overnight. The highest wind gust was reported in Monroe City at 74 miles per hour. Other high winds included a 58 mile-per-hour wind gust in Moberly, 53 miles per hour at the Columbia Airport and 51 miles per hour in Mexico. Reports of damage included downed trees and power outages in Chillicothe and Marceline. A report out of La Plata indicated multiple doors were blown off the fire station and a city maintenance building was leveled by high winds. In the eastern portion of the area, reports included a power line down over a house in Center, a tree down on Highway HH north of New London, and power outages in Hannibal. Downed trees and power lines were also reported in and around Mexico early Friday morning.
