High Stakes Engagement Between Brunswick-Higbee To Determine CLAA Title

Brunswick will host a dynamite doubleheader of high school basketball as Higbee rolls into town. The winner of the boys matchup will be the CLAA regular season champions while the winner of the girls matchup will secure second place in the conference.

The Higbee Tigers are 9-0 in conference play and 18-2 overall. Leading scorer Derek Rockett will enter the contest 106 points shy of passing the school record for career points. Higbee defeated Brunswick 56-51 in December to capture the Mendon Tournament crown. Coach Tanner Burton.

The 14-5 Wildcats are looking to bounce back from Monday’s home loss to Class 2 state-ranked New Franklin. Colby Jenkins leads the team average a shade above 15 points per game. Coach Colton Byrd says his team is prepared for this conference-deciding battle.

Higbee has won the last four matchups between the schools and the season series since 2008 is 9-8 in favor of the Tigers.

In the opening game of the night the 13-6 Lady Cats will try to defend the homestead led by sophomore Cadence Meyer. Meyer averages a double-double with 14 PPG and 10 rebounds along with five blocks per game. Coach AJ Hoskam wants his team to control the pace.

Higbee sits at 14-6 and are currently 1-3 in their last four contests. Coach Burton says the hard work will pay off for his young squad.
