Higbee Beats North Shelby Boys in Thriller; North Shelby Girls Defeat Tuscumbia

The North Shelby boys and girls basketball teams competed at the Norm Stewart Classic Thursday afternoon. The boys game saw Higbee defeat North Shelby in a 65-63 thriller. Higbee’s Derek Rockett broke the ninth and final tie with the final shot of the game.

Colin Schowe with the call on Glory 97.3 and centralmoinfo.com. Rockett scored a game-high 30 points along with eight rebounds, earning him game MVP honors. Coach Tanner Burton reviewed the final play.

The lead was exchanged 24 times with neither leading by more than seven points. Celton Crawford, Jaxon Hudson and Danny Janssen poured in eight points each for the Tigers. Jade Daniel led the Raiders with 19 points. Coach Cody Stoneburner said this was a confidence booster for Daniel.

Gabe Orr added 13 points and Drake Prange scored twelve. Higbee improves to 4-1 with North Shelby drops to 1-4.

The North Shelby Lady Raiders led wire-to-wire in a 55-47 victory over Tuscumbia. The Lady Raiders led by as many as 14 points in the contest. Harper Copenhaver put the exclamation point on the win in the second half.

Marissa McEwen was chosen as game MVP for her 13-point effort in the win. Coach Chris Parsons.

Tatum Hawken scored 21 points for Tuscumbia in the defeat. The Lady Lions got within four points on multiple occasions in the second half. Parsons was proud of the way his team responded to Tuscumbia’s rally.

North Shelby improves its record to 3-2.
