A couple area athletes received recognition as part of the University of Missouri’s “Athletes of the Decade” released this week. Brian Hancock of Monroe City was on the men’s track and field list and Hayden Legg of Mexico was on the men’s cross country list.

Hancock finished his collegiate career at the start of the decade. The former Monroe City state champion holds the Mizzou record in the pole vault (5.38m / 17-7.5), set during the 2011 indoor season. Hancock earned five All-America honors in the pole vault in his time at Mizzou, and was Mizzou’s first pole vault All-American in 50 years upon earning his first during the 2008 season. Hancock was named All-Big 12 three times throughout his career.

Legg qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Round in the 10k in 2013. Legg was Second-Team All-SEC during the 2012 season and was named to the 2011, 2013 and 2014 All-Midwest Region Team.
