Greyhounds Play Mineral Area for Region 16 Championship
For the fifth straight season, the Moberly Greyhounds and Mineral Area Cardinals meet in the Region 16 Championship game. The Greyhounds won three of the last four years. Mineral Area won two of the three regular season games this season. Coach Pat Smith says his team needs to give maximum effort for as close to a full 40 minutes as possible.
Other than the post-COVID season in 2021, the previous championship games were in Jefferson City. This year Region 16 voted to play tournament games on the better seed’s home court.
The 19th-ranked Greyhounds are 24-7, coming in off a 94-71 win over State Fair in Thursday night’s semifinal. The top-seeded Cardinals are ranked 6th. They are 29-2, and beat Three Rivers 79-65 Thursday. J.B. Connoley will have the pregame from Park Hills at 6:50 Saturday night, and tip at 7 on KWIX and centralmoinfo.com.
