The Moberly Greyhounds won their second straight Region 16 title with a 91-65 win over Mineral Area Saturday night in Jefferson City. Moberly fell behind 12-2 in the opening minutes, and still trailed 21-14 midway through the first when Markelo Sullivan went on a personal 8-0 run.

Sullivan had 20 of his game-high 22 points in the first half, hitting all six of his first half three attempts, as part of a 28-5 run that put the Hounds up 42-26 at halftime. Eddie Creal had 17 points, and Quinton Drayton added 14. Coach Pat Smith had plenty of accolades to go around.

Moberly is now 26-6, and will host the district championship Saturday night against the winner of Monday’s game between Triton and Highland of Illinois. Mineral Area is 30-2, with both losses coming to the Greyhounds, and they now wait to see if an at-large berth is available.

This is the first back-to-back region championships for the Greyhounds since 2004-2005. It’s also the first time in 15 years the women and men claimed the region title in the same year.
