Governor Parson Activates State Emergency Operations Plan Following Tornadoes

Governor Mike Parson activated the Missouri State Emergency Operations Plan in response to severe weather and flooding dating back to last Saturday, including the Friday night tornadoes in Knox, Saline, and Ray counties. The Knox County tornado and strong winds destroyed or did major damage to at least 35 homes in the Baring area. There was also substantial flooding overnight in the Kirksville area. Executive Order 23-08 will expire on September 5th, unless it is otherwise terminated or extended.
American Red Cross disaster response teams from the Central and Northern Missouri Red Cross chapter are assessing damage to numerous homes in Baring. Homeowners with significant damage should stop by the Baring Fire Department Sunday between 11 and 4 to meet with Red Cross teams or call 1-800-Red-Cross for assistance.
