Gates Hired As Mizzou Men’s Basketball Coach

The University of Missouri has introduced Dennis Gates as the next head men’s basketball coach. He has been the head coach at Cleveland State for the last three years, where he led the Vikings to two Horizon League Championships and back-to-back postseason appearances. Gates had words for Cleveland State.

His teams are 39-19 over the past two seasons. Athletic Director Desiree Reed-Francois said it was an efficient and comprehensive search.

Prior to Cleveland State, Gates spent eight seasons on Leonard Hamilton’s staff at Florida State. He has also worked at Marquette, Cal, Northern Illinois and Nevada, and was a skill development coach with the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers in 2002-03. He played 114 career games for California.
