FSA Drought Relief Programs Focus On Easing Hay Shortages

With drought conditions impacting parts of Missouri for a second consecutive year, securing an adequate hay supply is crucial for some producers to even keep their livestock.  A pair of programs available through USDA’s Farm Service Agency are providing relief for farmers needing hay from different sources.  State executive director Joe Aull says that farmers can cover some transportation costs with the Emergency Livestock Assistance Program.

Aull says another program allows farmers to turn to some of their acres enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program.

Eligibility for drought relief programs through USDA’s Farm Service Agency vary from county to county.  State Executive Director Joe Aull encourages producers to contact their local USDA Service Center to learn about programs available for their area.
