While COVID-19 has gained a lot of attention and concern over the past year-and-a-half, it won’t be long before flu season begins. Macon County Health Department Administrator Mike Chambers says they’re preparing to hold several flu shot clinics in the coming months.

Unless it is recommended by a doctor, the health department is advising residents to not get their flu vaccine until after the start of October. Chambers says there has been a trend of increased flu shots administered in the wake of the pandemic.

Missouri’s flu season typically runs from October through late May. Further details on the upcoming flu clinics will be made available within the next month on the Macon County Health Department’s website at maconmohealth.org or on the department’s Facebook page.
