Feedlot Populations, Marketings Steady To Start Year

The nation’s largest feedlots kept pace with year-ago levels during January, according to USDA’s monthly Cattle on Feed Report.  Feedlots wrapped up January with just under 11,797,000 head on hand, 43,000 more than a year ago but a net drop of 133,000 during the month.  Placements dropped seven percent to 1,792,000, though several trade pundits were predicting an even larger drop.  Marketings were near-even with a year ago at 1,844,000.
