Fayette Superintendent Jill Wiseman emailed the following statement to Regional Radio until she is available for comment: “The Fayette R-III Board of Education voted to transition to a four-day school week starting with the 2020-2021 school year. It is the board’s priority to give our students the very best educational opportunities possible. This transition is being made to ensure learning opportunities for our students continue to be provided by highly qualified educators. It has become increasingly difficult to fill teaching positions within our district. With 25% of our staff nearing retirement, this move is a strategy that the board feels will assist us in recruiting new teachers, as well as helping to compensate staff when it is difficult to compete with salaries of larger surrounding districts. The Fayette R-III School District is committed to making this transition as smooth as possible for our students and families and continuing to provide high-quality instruction to all our students.”

The Fayette School Board met Wednesday.
