Fast Start Propels Green City Past Meadville in Class 1 Sectional

The Green City Gophers used a 19-2 scoring run in the second quarter to roll past Meadville 70-52 in a Class 1 Sectional at Meadville High School. Laydon Fields paced the Gophers with 26 points, which included multiple highlight-reel plays.

The Gophers hit a season-high seven three-pointers and their press forced several turnovers out of Meadville early in the game. Green City coach Donnie Fields said it was big for his team to start fast.

Fields added, their halfcourt defense was the key to their success against Meadville.

Tri-County North MVP Trey Gannan concluded his high school career at Meadville with 17 points on the night. Fellow seniors Timber Hinnen and Conner Fletcher scored 13 and eleven points respectively for the Eagles. Despite digging themselves a 34-16 halftime hole, Meadville coach Drew Nier said he liked the way his team battled in the second half.

Meadville concludes their season with a record of 19-7. Green City improves to 25-4 and advances to the Class 1 Quarterfinals where they will face Higbee on Friday at 6 pm.
