Familiar Names Star at Small School State Track & Field

The Green City boys placed third in Class 1 state track and field at Adkins Stadium in Jefferson City Saturday. Sophomore Buggs Tipton repeated as the 110 meter hurdle, 300 meter hurdle, and triple jump state champion.

Including Friday’s long jump, Tipton boasts eight state championships in two years. Tipton evaluated his 13.1 triple jump.

Tipton topped second-place Landon Gilliland of Atlanta. The sophomore Tipton crossed in 14.4 in the 110 hurdles and 39.4 in the 300 hurdles. Madison’s Reed Layton ended seventh in the 110. Green City captured fifth in the 4×100 meter relay. Lady Gopher Meranda Lewis tallied third in long jump, fifth in the 100 meter dash, and eighth in the 200.

Also in Class 1, Marion County’s Delaney Straus closed her stellar career fourth in the 3200.

Glasgow’s Addi Barringhaus medaled eighth. Yellowjacket Edris Hamilton held seventh in the 400 while North Shelby’s Whitney Shinn sealed second in the girls 400. Cairo’s Journey Sander pole vaulted seventh and Thad Harman tossed seventh in javelin. Boys pole vault featured Atlanta’s Anton Zamora in fourth and La Plata’s Neil Green in sixth. Relay highlights included Glasgow’s girls seventh in the 4×800, Slater’s boys eighth in the 4×200, and Knox County’s boys seventh in the 4×400.

In Class 2, the Monroe City girls finished fourth. Seniors Cady Pauley of Milan and Ramzee Bruner of Marceline repeated as state champions. Pauley tossed 13.1 in shot put.

Schuyler County’s Kaitlyn Hatfield trailed in second. Bruner landed 1.6 in high jump.

Harrisburg’s Carli Ellis held fifth in high jump with Westran freshman Emma Wortmann seventh.

Salisbury sophomore Cooper Francis won long jump at 6.66

Monroe City’s Waylon DeGrave followed in third. Highland’s Cameron Bringer was fourth and Milan’s Jeremy Bennett was eighth. KRES-area athletes dominated boys shot put with Schuyler County’s Hayden Dixon second, Harrisburg’s Brayton Stephenson third, Scotland County’s Alex Long fourth, and Westran’s Brenin Howell fifth. South Shelby’s Callie McWilliams managed sixth in triple jump. Teammate Kamryn Mitchell notched sixth in the 100 hurdles with Marceline’s Sarah Kussman fourth.

Mitchell and South Shelby also stood seventh in the 4×800 behind second-place Monroe City. Other Lady Panther highlights included third in the 4×400 and freshman Audri Youngblood seventh in the 300 hurdles. The Panthers placed second in the 4×400 and third in the 4×100.

Clarence Cannon schools Clark County and Highland also shined. Clark County’s Grace Buschling took second in the 3200. The Lady Indians stood seventh in the 4×400, and Alexis Ellison earned fifth in the 100. Kaden Hamner secured fourth in the boys 200 and fifth in the 100. Highland’s girls medaled seventh in the 4×200. Cougar Robert Goehl hurdled fifth in the 110. Fellow senior Drew Mallett marked second in the 200 and third in the 100.
