Agronomists and pathologists are recommending soybean producers conduct a soil test right after harvest to determine if their fields have become infected with soybean cyst nematode, and to what extent. University of Missouri plant pathologist Kaitlyn Bissonnette says fall presents a better opportunity to detect the pest than in the spring.

Bissonnette adds that testing soil for SCN can be done at the same time as samples tested for fertility.

Bissonnette notes that The SCN Coalition is making a number of tests for the pest free for Missouri farmers. She advises interested producers to contact their nearest Extension office to learn more.
