Even Amid Excessive Heat, Drought Monitor Shows Improvement In Northeast Missouri

Even after a week of triple-digit temperatures and excessive heat, parts of five counties in Northeast Missouri saw upgrades to their drought condition this week.  The Drought Monitor indicates that Marion County, along with eastern Lewis, northern Monroe, northern Ralls and southern Shelby counties moved up to moderate drought from severe.  One other improvement on the monitor saw areas along the Iowa border in Atchison, Nodaway and Worth counties exit abnormally dry condition.  The percentage of Missouri in some stage of drought is unchanged from last week at 52.9 percent, including 5.1 percent in extreme drought.  18.9 percent of Missouri remain in abnormal dryness.
