Eugene Survives for Second Straight District Title

The Eugene Lady Eagles beat the Harrisburg Lady Bulldogs 54-39 for the Lady Eagle’s second consecutive district title.

Lucas Smith with the call on 99.9fm The Captain and centralmoinfo.com. The top-seeded Lady Eagles led 13-8 after one quarter of play, but Harrisburg was able to stay within striking distance thanks to its scrappy play on defense. The scrappy play wasn’t enough to keep Jodi Polly off the scoreboard, who had a six point second quarter, including a big and-one finish.

The lead for Eugene got to as large as 14 in the second quarter, but Harrisburg was able to cut the deficit down to 10 at the break. The Lady Bulldogs played the Lady Eagles even in the third, going into the fourth quarter down 40-30.

Seven fourth quarter points from Kayla Bond were enough to sink Harrisburg. Eugene head coach Megan Brinkmann was thrilled with the play from her sophomore forward.

Bond led all scorers with 14, and she was followed by Kaydi Alderman with 10 to lead the Lady Eagles in scoring. Carli Ellis and Bailey Combs each scored 11 to pace the Lady Bulldogs. The depth of Eugene showed in the scoring, as the Lady Eagles had seven different players score, while Harrisburg had four.

Three of those scorers will be back next season, so Harrisburg head coach Ryan Richardson is already excited for next year.

The Lady Bulldogs conclude their season at 10-16, their largest win total since 2016. Meanwhile, Eugene improves to 21-3 and will play the District 7 winner next Wednesday. You can hear full postage interviews below.
