EPA Announces Clean Bus Rebates

Seven area school districts are getting grants from the EPA to help replace older buses with new ones powered by electricity or natural gas. Knox County is getting up to $1.58 million to cover four electric buses, Paris is getting up almost to $1.2 million to cover three, Salisbury and Ralls County R-2 are each getting up to $790,000 to cover two buses each, and Cairo, Monroe City, and Schuyler County are all getting up to $395,000 each to cover the cost of one. Last year’s bipartisan Infrastructure Law authorized EPA to offer rebates. The EPA received around 2,000 applications requesting nearly $4 billion for more than 12,000 buses. This year, the program will fund approximately 2,500 school bus replacements.
