Edina Mayor won’t Seek Second Term

Monday’s Edina City Council meeting was fairly short. However, Edina City Clerk Margaret Gibson says there was a surprise at the end of the meeting.
Mayor Peters’ decision comes just a week before the deadline to file for the April election. At this time no one else has filed to run for mayor in Edina. Gibson says she’s uncertain what the next step would be if no candidates file.
The deadline to file for the April election is Tuesday at 5 pm. Anyone interested in filing can do so at Edina City Hall Monday through Friday. Filing hours are from 8:30 am to noon and from 1 to 4 pm. Filing is extended to 5 pm this Tuesday.
