Drought Mitigation Programs Available Through FSA

Even with another week of improvements on the drought monitor, Missouri ranchers continue to deal with the impact of this year’s prolonged dryness.  Impacted producers may be eligible for any of four relief programs available through USDA’s Farm Service Agency.  State executive director Joe Aull says some Missouri producers may be familiar with these programs after last year’s drought, including the Livestock Forage Program.

Aull notes that a producer’s eligibility isn’t impacted by a county exiting extreme or exceptional drought.

Other drought relief programs available from Farm Service Agency include the Emergency Conservation Program, Emergency Livestock Assistance Program, and Emergency Grazing and Haying Program for select acres enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program.  FSA State Executive Director Joe Aull advises producers to contact their local USDA Service Center, as program eligibility varies from county to county.
