Dorothy Mae Motley
Dorothy Mae Motley, 84, of Bowling Green, passed away Friday, August 23, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Bibb-Veach Funeral Homes and Crematory with Pastor Bill Hobbs officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 28th at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born May 21, 1940 in Silex, Missouri to Cedric and Francis (Blair) Hammett. She was united in marriage to Paul F. Motley on May 23, 1959 at the preacher’s house in Louisiana, Missouri. Paul preceded her in death on June 10, 2018.
Dorothy grew up in the Silex area, later moving to Bowling Green. She spent several years employed with LA Plastics, and later Stark Bros. Nursery. Eventually, she made a career change and went to work at Smith-Barr Manor for three years and then to Maple Grove Lodge for several years, retiring March 31, 2011.
Dorothy enjoyed spending her time gardening, playing Big Fish games on her computer, playing bingo, watching Westerns, and working jigsaw puzzles. Her favorite pastime was spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Robert Fry Jr. of Quincy, Illinois, Paul W. Motley Sr. of Bowling Green, and William (Carol) Motley of Curryville; daughters, Debbie (Tom) Liffick of Bowling Green, Thelma “Tiny” Shy of Bowling Green, Donna (Denny) Curry of Curryville, and Rita Liffick of Bowling Green; 26 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Dola) Hammett of Bowling Green; sister, Shirley (Ray) Motley of Bowling Green; son-in-law, Mike VonVain; sister-in-law, Mildred Motley; and many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Lora VonVain; three grandchildren, Deanna Motley, John Curry, and Jason VonVain; siblings, Betty Fry, Angeline Colbert, and William Hammett; two half-sisters, Donnie Willmore and Dona Klutz; son-in-law, Don Shy; and daughter-in-law, Peggy Sue Motley.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Curry, Bryan Curry, Alan Hurd, Davy Sherman, Shaun Shade, and Eli Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Shane Fry, Keith VonVain, Paul M. Edwards, Richie Utley, Paul Motley Jr., Mick Fox, Dylan Fox, and Fred Liffick.
Memorials may be made to Pike County Home Health and Hospice or Mt. Zion Cemetery.
