Davis Pitches Cairo to Victory in Special Senior Night Game

The Cairo Bearcats used a dominant pitching performance from Jacob Davis and some opportunistic offense to defeat Salisbury 3-0 in a senior night exhibition baseball game at Bearcat Field. Davis struck out the final two batters he faced in the fifth inning to cap his night on the mound.

Eric Duick with the call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Davis finished with 11 strikeouts over five innings of work, while allowing only three hits. Cairo head coach Morgan Matthews reacted to Davis’ performance.

Matthews added it was just nice to be able to play a game with this group of players.

Cairo was coming off a 16-1 fall season in 2019. Matthews expected a strong 2020 season for his Bearcats.

Salisbury featured one senior in the game in the form of catcher Andrew Furlong. Acting Salisbury head coach Doug Sellers said the future is bright for the Panthers.

Salisbury pitchers Jackson King and Eli Wekenborg held Cairo’s dangerous lineup to just one hit. However, Cairo took advantage of two errors and two wild pitches in a two-run fifth inning to extend its lead. You can hear full interviews with both coaches below.
