Daniel Ignatius Roberts Sr., 93, of Elsberry, formally of Silex, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024, at Elsberry Health Care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 22, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church in Millwood, Missouri with Fr. Charles Tichacek officiating. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Daniel was born December 28, 1930, in Silex, Missouri to Joseph and Caroline Ann (Bauer) Roberts. He was united in marriage to Norma Jean Ince on September 12, 1953, at St. Alphonsus Church. She preceded him in death on June 14, 2023.

Surviving are children: Daniel Roberts Jr. (Patsy), Rick Roberts (Josie), Vickie Ray, Sharon Pizzurro (Skip), Linda Quigley (David), and Ann Burkemper (Dave); 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Frankie Ince and Pat Roberts; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Preceding Daniel in death were his parents; son, Mike Roberts; brothers-in-law, Patrick Ince and Floyd Ince and Lloyd McMillen; and sisters-in-law, Alta Roberts, Roxie McMillen, Betsy Ince, and Sue Ince. Daniel was the youngest and last surviving child of 14. Siblings preceding Daniel were Mary, Laura, Mother Charles, Joe, Sister Catherine, John, George, Jim, Sister Jerome, Mary (Shocklee), Ivo, Tom, and Dick.

Daniel grew up in Silex and lived there his entire life other than when he moved around while stationed in the Army. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and the Millwood Knights of Columbus. In his younger years, Daniel enjoyed playing baseball with the Eastern Missouri Hard Road team. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Daniel loved to spend time bird hunting. He also enjoyed playing poker and pinochle with he and Norma’s group of friends. When his children were young, Daniel was a coach for the boys’ baseball teams. He was an active member of the church and also sang in the special choir for holidays.

Pallbearers will be Cory Roberts, Nathan Pizzurro, Eric Roberts, Quinten Quigley, Kyle Burkemper, and Jeffrey Stanek.

Memorials may be made to St. Alphonsus School.
