Brake says one advantage for cattle is extending time spent foraging rather than going to stored hay or feed. However, he says to achieve that, cover crops need to be planted soon.

MU Extension livestock forage specialist Derek Brake notes that it will take time for cattle to learn to graze cover crops they’re not familiar with, but once they do, they won’t shy away from it.
