COVID-19 has impacted the back-to-back Class 1 girls third-place finishers this offseason. Coming off a close loss to eventual state champion Walnut Grove in the state semifinals, the Community Lady Trojans are hoping to replicate the success they’ve had the last two seasons. Coach Bob Curtis says the pandemic changed everything they had planned for the offseason.

Community lost three starters, including All-Staters Natalie Thomas and Delaney Bowers to graduation; however, they return First Team CAC All-Conference honorees Alexis Welch and Brianna Beamer. Curtis expects those two to spearhead the Lady Trojans this year.

The 2020 senior class compiled a 92-21 record the last four years. Curtis says this year’s team set high expectations during the offseason.

With the uncertainty of what lies ahead in the pandemic, Curtis says the Lady Trojans must have a greater focus.

Community has made it to the Show-Me Showdown the last two seasons. You can hear more from Curtis and other girls coaches from the area on the Girls Tipoff Show Monday at 5:35pm on KRES.
