Community Faces Reigning Class 1 Champs Walnut Grove in Show-Me-Showdown Semifinal
The Community Lady Trojans are back in the Class 1 Show-Me Showdown for a second straight year. The top ranked Lady Trojans defeated Green City 60-53 in Friday night’s state quarterfinal. Community coach Bob Curtis says the team’s hungry for a better outcome in Springfield.
Community enters the semifinal 28-1 and will take on the reigning state champion Walnut Grove Lady Tigers. The 26-5 Lady Tigers are in their eighth Show-Me-Showdown in nine years. Coach Rory Henry says their five losses are all quality ones.
Henry is referring to All-Stater Makayla McVay, who tore her ACL last August. The Lady Tigers also have the reigning Class 1 player of the year in Faith Gilkey, and another likely All-Stater in Lauren Johnson. Henry expands on the trio’s skill sets.
The Lady Tigers are currently ranked second in the Class 1 coaches polls. Curtis says Community will have their hands full.
The winner will take on the South Iron/South Nodaway winner in the Class 1 Championship Friday afternoon. Coverage of Thursday’s Class 1 girls semifinal on Glory 97 and centralmoinfo.com begins at 4:55pm with tipoff at 5:10pm. Scott Lunte and Eric Duick have the call.
