Columbia Police Arrest Suspect For June Homicide

Columbia Police have arrested 18-year-old Ja’Shaun Barney of Columbia in connection to the murder of Deshon Houston June 26th in the 32-hundred block of Dove Drive. Barney was arrested for second-degree murder, armed criminal action and felony resisting arrest. Officers that afternoon found the 33-year-old Houston dead with an apparent gunshot wound. A suspect vehicle was later found wrecked in the 38-hundred block of West Gibbs Road. Columbia Police have previously arrested 21-year-old Jajuan Crockett, 18-year-old Damarkus Williams, and 19-year-old Bryton Allen, all of Columbia. Columbia Police say Barney fled from them, first on foot, and then in a vehicle, from the area of the five-thousand block of Clark Lane around 10 Thursday night. The vehicle was slowed with spike strips on I-70, and the chase ended at Creasy Springs Road and Business Loop 70 West. 25-year-old Alex Glay, who was driving, was charged with resisting arrest and hindering prosecution. Columbia Police are still actively searching for 19-year-old Alqueze Jones, 19-year-old Deljuan Turner, and 21-year-old Deazes Turner, all of Columbia.
