A Columbia man died from injuries suffered in a crash at Providence and East Sexton around 5:15 Tuesday afternoon, and a 72-year-old woman was jailed facing multiple charges. Columbia Police report 25-year-old Skylar Maddox was travelling southbound on Providence, when Susan Hanel of Columbia failed to yield while turning left off of Providence and into his path. He hit the rear passenger side of the vehicle and was thrown from his motorcycle. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Hanel failed to stop, and was later found at her home. She faces charges of driving while impaired on drugs resulting in death, leaving the scene of an accident, armed criminal action, operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, and careless and imprudent driving. Another motorist hit the motorcycle after the accident, but was able to avoid hitting Maddox. She was not injured.
