South Shelby has hired Dalton Armontrout from Madison to become its next boys basketball coach. Armontrout says family played a large role in the move.

Armontrout’s replaces Luke O’Laughlin after coaching the Cardinals for one year. Armontrout’s wife recently took a job in Hannibal and the couple plan to move closer to the area in the future. Coaching in the Clarence Cannon Conference was something that attracted the Centralia alum to the South Shelby opening.

Amontrout has a history of building basketball programs. During his time in Prairie Home, he guided the Lady Panthers to the school’s only Show-Me-Showdown appearance in 2017, and then steered the Madison girls to a 16-10 record two years ago. Armontrout see’s a lot of potential with the Cardinals in the future.

In addition to being South Shelby’s new boys basketball coach, Armontrout will also take over O’Laughlin’s assistant coaching duties on the football team. He’s in line to be first year coach Adam Gunterman’s defensive coordinator.
