The Class 4 District 6 semifinals featuring Kirksville vs Centralia and Macon vs Mexico are set to take place at Moberly High School Tuesday night. Kirksville is the top seed in the district and has won eight of its last 10 games. Coach Heath Schneider says good baserunning has been a big key to success.
Centralia has won 12 of 15 games after starting the year 5-5. The Panthers have won four straight, including a 13-4 district quarterfinal win over Moberly. Coach Michael Rodgers anticipates a tough opponent in Kirksville.
Macon and Mexico meet in the 2-3 matchup. Macon comes in as the two-seed for the district with a 14-4 record. The Tigers possess a solid pitching staff that is allowing an average of 3.5 runs a game. Macon coach Kyle Robuck feels the team’s schedule has prepped them properly for postseason play.
Mexico comes into district play coming off back-to-back wins over Moberly and Battle to run their record to 11-11. The Bulldogs’ strength is on the base paths where they’ve stolen a school record 103 bases. Daeye Miller leads the team with 17 steals on the season. Mexico coach Daniel McCarty says the key in this game will be in doing the little things right.
