Clarence Cannon Foes Meet in District Championship

Two Clarence Cannon Conference teams meet in the Class 1 District 6 championship game when South Shelby visits Monroe City. Undefeated Monroe won the regular season contest 46-8 in Week 4. Panthers coach David Kirby says his defense must stay focused against the dynamic Cardinals offense.

Monroe City is the top ranked team in Class 1. The Panthers are coming off a 58-18 district semifinal win over Westran. The trio of Ceaton Pennewell, Waylon DeGrave and Cameron Jones averages 280 rushing yards a game. Kirby says the continued improvement of the offensive front has paved the way for the ground game.

South Shelby coach Adam Gunterman expected another crack at the Panthers.

South Shelby beat Scotland County 48-3 to open district play then shutout Highland 42-0 last week. Senior quarterback Trey Countryman has completed 67 percent of his passes for 1,749 yards and 26 touchdowns to just four interceptions. Gunterman says the 8-3 Cardinals have to take care of the football.

You can hear South Shelby at Monroe City on KTCM with pregame starting around 6:35. Brandon Monty and Austin Ward will have the call.
