Chiefs Rally Past 49ers to Win Super Bowl
The Chiefs scored three unanswered touchdowns in the fourth quarter to rally past the 49ers 31-20 at Super Bowl 54 in Miami. Patrick Mahomes threw the go-ahead score to Damien Williams with 2:44 left to put KC up for good. Williams capped the win with a 38-yard TD run with 1:12 to go. Williams had 133 yards of total offense and two scores.
The Chiefs won the second Super Bowl in franchise history and first in 50 years. After the game, coach Andy Reid talked about how big the win was not only for his team, but for Chiefs of the past and others.
Reid says he’s very pleased with his team and would love to have them all back.
Reid says quarterback Patrick Mahomes never gave up after his early struggles.
Mahomes passed for 286 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, and also scored on the ground to take MVP honors. Mahomes on what he was thinking on their go-ahead drive.
Mahomes says he feels so good for the city of KC and head coach Andy Reid.
Williams says they won this for the fans in Kansas City.
Tyreek Hill was the leading receiver, catching nine passes for 105 yards. Hill says Mahomes was a calming force
Safety Tyrann Matheiu says the defense gave up some plays, but buckled down when it mattered.
Jimmy Garoppolo passed for 219 yards, a touchdown and two picks for the 49ers, who led 20-10 with less than seven minutes left. Raheem Mostert rushed for a touchdown for the Niners, who fell short of a record-tying sixth Super Bowl title. Kansas City finishes the season as World Champions for the first time in 50 years, with exactly 800 games having passed between their Super Bowl 4 win until their Super Bowl 54 win. Along the way they also claimed another AFC West divisional championship and the AFC Championship, and end with an overall record, including the playoffs, of 15-4.
Kansas City will hold a Super Bowl parade and downtown rally on Wednesday.
