The National Chicken Council has released its annual Chicken Wing Report, projecting Americans to consume a record-breaking one-point-four billion wings during next weekend’s Super Bowl between the Chiefs and 49ers. This year’s estimate is a two-percent increase over 2019, meaning Americans will eat 27 million more wings during this year’s big game weekend versus last year’s. To put that in perspective, each person who saw the Chiefs play at Arrowhead Stadium this season—including the preseason—would each need to eat 16-hundred wings to equal this year’s projected total. The Council’s survey also found that two thirds of Americans who eat chicken wings, claim they like to do so while watching a major sporting event, and just over half want to make chicken wings the official food of the Super Bowl.
