Centralia Football Coach Newsted Eyes West Platte Job

Centralia head football coach Jim Newsted told players Tuesday he will leave for West Platte. A source says the move awaits final approval from the West Platte School Board, and Newsted has not resigned yet. Centralia football finished 10-1 with an undefeated regular season and Clarence Cannon Conference championship last year. Newsted guided the Panthers for three seasons after 18 years as Erle Bennett’s assistant. The Newton, Kansas native assisted Bennett on Centralia’s 2003 state championship team. Newsted also coaches Centralia track and field.
