Centralia Boys Win, Brookfield Teams Place; Moberly’s Gibbs, Palmyra’s Arch Make History

Centralia won the Class 1 boys tournament while both the Brookfield girls and boys placed second at the MSHSAA State Wrestling Championships.

The state title is the first in program history for Centralia and comes after three straight runner-up finishes. Coach Luke Gramke said it starts with the senior class.

Seniors Brayden Dubes, Brayden Shelton and Seth Hasekamp won individual championships. It was the third in Dubes’ career and second for Shelton. Hasekamp finished as state runner-up the last two seasons.

The Brookfield boys got state champions out of a couple All-Big K finals. Sophomore Peyton Parn clinched his second championship with a 14-2 major decision over Centralia’s Weston Ward. Devan Parn defeated Marceline’s Ryder Gooch 5-3 in a match that came down to the wire.

Moberly freshman Breanne Gibbs completed a perfect season and made program history by becoming the first-ever girl’s state champion with a 7-0 win over Palmyra’s Ellyse Lorenson in a district championship rematch.

Gibbs became Moberly’s first champion overall since 2012 and is the first under her dad, head coach Charlie Gibbs.

Palmyra’s Collin Arch also made history by becoming Missouri’s 37th four-time state champion. The Northern Illinois commit suffered his only career loss earlier this season to Mizzou commit Carter McAllister of Rock Bridge.

Fellow Northern Illinois commit Gavynn Carpenter of Hallsville attained his first state title after taking second the last two years.
