Centralia boys basketball outlasted Moberly 50-49 at Moberly Tuesday. Moberly led 42-41 before Beau Gordon’s personal 8-0 run in the middle of the fourth.

Moberly countered with a 7-0 run to tie it at 49, then rebounded a Centralia miss with 1:45. The Spartans held for the last shot, and Jaisten Payne heaved a 30-footer in hopes of a foul. The senior missed, then fouled Panther Noah Brooks on the rebound. Brooks hit the front end of a one-and-one with four seconds, and Moberly committed a turnover on the inbound. Spartans head coach Cord Hagedorn analyzed the sequence.
Payne produced a game-high 22 points. The Spartans surged to a 30-16 advantage in the second quarter, but the Panthers closed the half on an 8-0 run.
It ballooned to a 16-2 run early in the third. Grant Erisman ended with 18. Hagedorn explained Moberly’s scoring struggles.
Humphrey’s Centralia squad enters the holiday break 4-5.
