Centralia and Mexico Renew Their Rivalry in Week 1

The Centralia Panthers and Mexico Bulldogs will continue their rivalry to open the 2023 season Friday night. The Panthers outlasted the Bulldogs last season 26-21. Both teams have significant roster turnover due to graduation this past spring. Centralia coach Tyler Forsee likes the prospects of his young squad.

One key returner for the Panthers is quarterback Cullen Bennett who threw for over a thousand yards and twelve touchdowns last season and added 384 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Forsee discusses the keys on both sides of the ball.

The Panthers will face a young Mexico squad that features just four seniors. Mexico coach Steve Haag says he likes the progression he’s seen through the offseason and last week’s jamboree.

The Bulldogs will continue to run their flexbone offense this season. Sophomore Charlie Fisher will serve as the running back. The new backfield will be comprised of Drew DeMint, Hunter Cuno, and Peyton Hoover. Haag explains the keys to success for his new-look offense.

Kickoff for the game has been moved back to 8 pm due to the heat. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:40 on KTCM 97.3 and centralmoinfo.com. Colin Schowe and Brad Tregnago will have the call.
