The Central Methodist men’s soccer team repeated as national champions over the weekend. The Eagles scored three goals in the first half on their way to a 3-1 victory over Hastings College in the NAIA National Championship game in Irvine, California Saturday night. CMU coach Alex Nichols reflects on the repeat.

The Eagles compiled a 25-1 record on their way to their second straight championship. Nichols says the Eagles previous challenges in this year’s National Tournament prepared them well for the championship.

Over the course of five games in the NAIA National Tournament the Eagles outscored their opponents 18-2. The Central Methodist roster featured three players from Missouri, with the rest coming from various countries around the world. Nichols says despite the different nationalities, the team meshed very well.

Central Methodist will graduate eight seniors off this year’s team leaving a significant returning core to aid their efforts for a three-peat in 2020.
