Canton Girls Pull Off Thrilling OT Win Over Raiders, North Shelby Boys Cruise

The Canton Lady Tigers pulled off a overtime thriller over North Shelby, but the Raiders returned the favor in the boys game.

Canton knocked off the seventh ranked team in Class 1 56-51 in overtime. For the second straight game, North Shelby was looking to preserve a one point lead. Canton took that lead away with 30 seconds to go in regulation.

Scott Lunte with the call of Macie Fisher’s three on KRES and centralmoinfo.com. The Lady Raiders fouled and Canton went one for two from the line to take a 44-41 lead. The Lady Raiders took a timeout with just under 10 seconds to go to set up the final play in regulation.

In overtime, sophomore Nariah Clay scored five points, including three free throws to seal the game. Lady Tigers coach Danielle Baker said this was a good win for Canton.

The Lady Tigers improve to 8-3 and host Community Saturday before both Tiger teams play in the Tony Lenzini Tournament next week. Despite dropping to 8-3, North Shelby coach Landon Daniel put into perspective how far the Lady Raiders have come.

Daniel’s boys team defeated Canton 80-60 to end a 16-game losing streak to the Tigers.

The Raiders improve to 6-5 and play in their home tournament next. Canton interim coach Samantha Powers offered some thoughts on the game.

Powers took over as interim head coach earlier this week after former head coach Cody Ash resigned due to health concerns. Canton drops to 3-9.
